Beyond Playwriting

Excluding her years in graduate school (2017-20), Calley has spent the past decade working in the non-profit arts sector. Her positions have spanned creative programming for youth and adults, DEI management and strategic planning, special project and curriculum development, and program logistics and operations.

New York City

Calley is currently the Program Manager at Teachers & Writers Collaborative. She is thrilled to join yet another NYC organization centered on the life and work of writers of all ages.

Calley previously served as Program Director at NY Writers Coalition (2020 - 2024). During her tenure at NYWC, she created and spearheaded the Black Writers Program from its inception. BWP hosted nearly 400 workshop sessions and 25 events exclusively for Black writers from October 2020 to June 2024—almost all free of charge and without lengthy application processes. Calley also served as a teaching artist and led 6 multi-week workshops from 2021-2024.

While in NYC she has also served as the U.S. Showrunner’s Assistant for Season 2 of Peacock’s One of Us Is Lying (2021-22) and as a Marketing and Communications Consultant at EmblemHealth (2018-19).

During graduate school, Calley served on the School of Drama’s Cultural Change Task Force (2018-22), serving as the committee lead to implement the Standards Concerning Slurs and the committee co-lead to implement the Revised Hair and Make-up Protocols for Students of Color. She was also Co-Coordinator (2019-20) and Artists of Color Facilitator (2018-19) for the school’s MFA student-led Affinity Groups.

Memphis

Before moving to New York City, Calley was the Diversity & Inclusion Manager at the Memphis Symphony Orchestra (2016-17) and the Programs Coordinator at Hattiloo Theatre (2014-16). During this time, she was also a member of multiple task forces and programs, including the Facing History and Ourselves Ambassadors, the Memphis Grizzlies TEAM Mentor Program Facilitator Training Corps, and the Salzburg Global Seminar Cultural Innovators Forum.

While at MSO, Calley oversaw the relaunch of the Circle of Friends, a diversity-driven philanthropic initiative centered on supporting intentional inclusion through the arts. She also created a young professionals program, aided in the construction of the Musician Fellowship Program, and served on the Board of Directors Diversity & Inclusion Committee.

At Hattiloo Theatre, Calley managed 8 seasonal and year-long youth programs centered on increasing youth engagement with Black theater. One program, the Hattiloo Showstoppers Program, took 60 middle school students through a six-week production process and culminated in 6 performances with over 400 attendees. Calley fulfilled several additional roles, including Interim Managing Director, Assistant Production Manager, House Manager, and Stage Manager throughout her two years at Hattiloo.
